  BBAA Basketball Rules 

6th Through 8th Grade Girls Division

I.  Illinois High School Association Basketball rules will be in effect as modified below.  

II.  Pre-Game Setup:  

A.  Each team will begin the game at the basket away from their bench, in order that each team will finish the game at the basket adjacent to their bench.

B.  Each team will provide a responsible ADULT for the Official Scorer’s table at every game.  

1.  Home team will provide the official scorekeeper.  

2.  Visiting team will provide the official timekeeper.  

3.  Exceptions to the above are at the discretion of the league commissioner.  

III. Time:  

A.  Eight (4) minute periods with 30 seconds between 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th for subs only. 1 minute between 2nd and 6th and 5 minutes between the 4th and 5th. 32 minutes of actual game time.  

B.  Two (2) full time-outs per half with no carryover. One (1) 30 second timeout per game that may be carried over from the 1st half.  

C.  Playing Time  

1.  Each player will play a minimum of 16 minutes per game.  

2.  Each player will play a minimum of one 4 minute period per half.  

3.  No player will play more than five 4 minute periods per game.  

4.  Each player will rest a minimum of 4 minutes per half, unless there is a lack of players. Should this occur, each player must rest a minimum of 4 minutes per game.  

5.  Free substitution allowed only in the fourth quarter and only after every player has played 16 minutes.  

6.  The above will apply only if the player has attended the BBAA scheduled practices or if the coach has been notified about the missing of practice. In order for a coach to reduce a player’s playing time the league commissioner, Basketball President, or Vice-President MUST be notified.  

If there are any concerns or questions, please contact the Basketball President or Vice-President. 

IV.  Official Clock  

A.  The clock will be stopped for the following:  

1.  Shooting foul  

2.  Team time-out  

3.  Referee time-out  

4.  Ball leaves designated playing area.  

5.  Last minute of game and any overtime for normal stoppage.  

B.  The clock will not be stopped for the following:  

1.  Ball out-of-bounds within designated area.  

2.  Three (3) second lane violation  

3.  Rule infraction resulting in change of possession.  

V.  Games that end in tie  

A.  Will go into (1) 4 minute period with 1 time out per team. Game will end at the end of this overtime period regardless of score.  

VI.  Defenses  

A.  No pressing after attaining a 10 point lead. If lead drops under 10 the defense may press.  

VII.  Offense  

A.  10 seconds to bring ball up across neutral zone line.  

VIII.  Miscellaneous  

A.  Any flagrant foul will result in ejection; Basketball President or Vice-President must be notified.  

B.  Team must be ready for play after injured player leaves the court.  

C.  Any player deemed unfit for play by the coach, referee, or the commissioner will sit out for the game during which illness occurred.  

D.     No gum chewing allowed  

E.      No jewelry allowed during practices and games  

F.      Eyeglasses must have a safety strap.  

G.     BBAA strongly suggests that safety goggles be worn during practices and games.  

H.     BBAA strongly suggests that athletic supporters be worn during practices and games.  

I.        BBAA strongly suggests that a mouthpiece be used during practices and games.  

The following will not be allowed during practice and games:
Water bottles - Coaches must enforce & check area!!!
Snacks
Gum
Basketballs (other than team equipment) or any kind of ball
